As a webmaster, you know the importance of drawing traffic to your site. Website traffic generates customers, which in turn can produce additional sales opportunities. A webmaster affiliate program is a good way to increase your revenue without requiring extra cash to purchase inventory.

Generally a webmaster affiliate program falls into three basic types of categories. First is the pay per click programs. Google is the best known for this type of program but there are several other companies who offer affiliate programs that are similar in nature. A pay per click program will compensate you a very small amount for each person that clicks through one of your links. Usually you are paid a set rate that requires numerous clicks before any pay out is made.

A commission based or pay per sale program is probably the most popular webmaster affiliate program. As an affiliate you receive a predetermined payout for each sale that you achieve. Some programs offer cash bonuses to affiliates once they reach a set number of sales per month. The type of product you sell will also affect your earning potential. For example, generally you can earn a much higher rate per product by selling computer software than from selling other products such as books or DVD’s.

Although not as common, some programs offer what is known as a flat fee rate for their webmaster affiliate program. An affiliate participating in this type of program may be compensated on either a per lead or per sale basis. In this instance the price of the product is not as relevant. You are paid a set amount for each new customer or each product that you sell. One advantage to a flat fee rate program is that it is much easier to calculate and track your sales.
